Soccer Table Update as of 5/3

MLS:
 - Past week's results - All 16 teams were in action on Saturday headlined by a 1-1 draw between Sounders and their coach's old club, Columbus. Edson Buddle and the Galaxy continued a blistering start to the campaign with a 3-1 victory over the expansion Philadelphia Union. New York traveled to DC as a favorite in a game which was labeled as 3 points expected match. DC signed new strikers and play makers in the mid-week, but as the rest of the season has gone, the United lost again 2-0. Chicago and Chivas drew 1-1, while San Jose upset Colorado 1-0.
 - Current MLS Table:

  • East: New York have already equaled their 2009 win total (5) and lead the east by 7 points, remarkable. The next five clubs are only 2 points apart (8-6), but the advantage goes to Columbus who still has two games to play over most other teams. DC still sit at the bottom of the table, winless and pointless after five.
  • West: The Galaxy are the only MLS team out-pacing the Red Bulls, sitting atop the west with 16 points in six matches. Houston are surprisingly still strong after losing so many stars after last season and moved into a tie for second place with Colorado at 10 points. Dallas might be winless, but they are not DC, their fourth draw of the season still leaves them without striking distance from the rest of the pack in the west.

EPL:
 - Past week's results - Several major match-ups this weekend in the EPL as the title and European spots were up for contention. Both Chelsea and Manchester United rolled off wins to force the title race into the last weekend. Manchester City fell behind Aston Villa early in, but responded with three straight goals to take the 3 points and end a great home season. On Monday, Arsenal's dreadful end of the season continued by letting another three points slip away in a 2-1 loss to Blackburn.
 - Current EPL Table - One weekend to go and its all to play for between Chelsea (83) and Manchester United (82). Aston Villa's (64) and Liverpool's (62) losses this weekend eliminated them from Champions League contention, but secured Europa league spots after Everton drew this weekend 0-0 against Stoke City. Tottenham (67) and ManCity (66) have two matches each to play for the final UEFA CL spot, and will square off in a massive clash this Wednesday on ESPN2. Hull City's 2-2 draw with Wigan today finalized their relegation, along with Burnley and Portsmouth.

Serie A:
 - Past week's results - Roma took to the field first on Saturday and a 2-1 victory pushed them to the top of the table. AC Milan faced Fiorentina and earned their first win in four games, who's UEFA CL secured position had been slipping as of late. On Sunday, Inter Milan returned from their monumental victory over Barcelona, but would they be distracted? Two goals put the champions back in front of the league and kept Lazio away from guaranteed safety. The relegation game of the week saw Bologna (17) and Atalanta (18) draw 1-1.
 - Current Serie A Table - Its a two horse race, Inter (76) and Roma (74), with two matches left. All the remaining matches are win-able for the contenders, and both clubs take on Chievo Varona. Sampdoria (63) is hanging on to the last Champions League spot just two ahead of Palermo (61) - and the two square off this upcoming weekend, much like in the EPL. Siena and Livorno are both relegated, and Atalanta needs two wins in their final two matches to stay alive.
