2009/2010 English Premier League Season Recap

The 18th edition of the Barclay's Premier League came to a close last weekend with Chelsea claiming their 4th English title. Here is a look at this season's stats and final standings, along with a few thoughts:

Final Key Positions:

  • Champions: Chelsea - 4th English title, 3rd Premier League title
  • UEFA Champions League - Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, & Tottenham
  • Europa League - Manchester City, Aston Villa, & Liverpool
  • Relegated - Portsmouth, Burnley, & Hully City
Statistics:
  • Goals scored per match: 2.77
  • Top goal scorer: Didier Drogba (27)
  • Top assists: Frank Lampard (17)
  • Biggest win: Tottenham 9-1over Wigan & Chelsea 8-0 over Wigan. (Not a good line for Wigan fans).
  • Longest Win Run: Chelsea and Arsenal tied at 6 matches.
  • Longest Unbeaten Run: Birmingham City (12 matches).
  • Longest Losing Run: Portsmouth (7 matches).
  • Highest Attendance: 75,316 (Manchester United)

And so another great season of EPL soccer has been closed and the attention turns to the UEFA Champions League Final and the 2010 World Cup. But soon after the soccer world will refocus on the 2010/11 EPL season which will welcome the quick return of Newcastle & West Browmich Albion, as well as the winner of the Blackpool / Cardiff City winner.
