David Villa signs with Barcelona for 34 million pounds

Following up on yesterday's story the Spanish champions, Barcelona, announced today that they have signed Valencia and Spanish striker David Villa for 34.2 million pounds. The transfer is the first big move of the off-season and is likely to remain one of the top stories heading into next season after the World Cup. Villa was the top goal scorer with 21 goal this past season in La Life and will be a tremendous streak alongside Messi or Xavi.

On Friday morning he will be unveiled to the Barcelona fans and join fellow Spanish national team players Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, and Pedro. He leaves Valencia after a strong season in which he propelled them to 3rd place in La Liga and a UEFA Champions League spot. It will be interesting to see how his transition to a new club pre-World Cup compares to the players looking to capitalize on post-World Cup performances to a new club or contract.
