Soccer News & Rumors Update

Here are a few of the big stories and rumors that have been reported across the soccer world over the past few days.


  • Barcelona are already talking about making moves to keep the La Liga title in their camp. Reports came out today that the club will try to make moves on David Villa and Cesc Fabregas during the off-season.
  • Following an injury filled season AC Milan defender Oguchi Onyewu has elected to add one year to his Serie A contract and play for free for the 2012/13 season. The move is very rare and one must wonder how it could impact future player injuries and team contract deals. 
  • After completing the double with Chelsea, mid-fielder Deco is looking to make a move back to him native Brazil and club Fluminense
  • The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has announced today a rule change leading into the 2010 World Cup. Players will not be allowed to feint as they are about to take a penalty kick. The move has become big in Brazil and the IFAB decided it is unsportsmanlike. They will work with all of the World Cup referees to education them, as well as the players on the rule change. 
  • While the Henry to MLS rumor has been around for well over a year now the story heated up this past weekend when it was reported he signed a pre-contract with the New York Red Bulls. However, Henry is now playing down the reports, but Barca General Director saw the reports another way.
  • With Joe Hart moving back to Manchester City after his loan ended, Birmingham City are reportetly set to sign Manchester United keeper Ben Foster in a 6 million pound move. 
  • ESPN is reporting that if Ashley Cole cannot resolve his current contract dispute with Chelsea then the club may look to replace him with Liverpool midfielder Benayoun
  • The man who scored the winning goal for Italy in 2006, Fabio Grosso, has been cut from Italy's initial World Cup roster
