MLS Table Update as of 6/7/10

 - Past week's results:

  • New York 2-1 Houston: After four straight losses, Juan Pablo Angel's late game goal turns the corner for the Red Bulls, while the Dynamo have gotten their star player back - Brian Ching - but he alone is unable to help this aging squad.
  • San Jose 2-2 Columbus: The early start time, and the sun, dominated the headlines heading into the night, but coming out of the match the talk should be about Chris Wondolowski who has 6 goals and 1 assist in 9 matches.
  • Toronto 0-0 Kansas City: This turned into a defensive battle despite the two red cards, however Toronto is now undefeated in 5 matches and their home crowd continues to make BMO field one of the top stadium environments in the league. After the World Cup break they get to host the Galaxy.
  • DC United 0-0 Real Salt Lake: Based on this year so far this is a clear win for DC United after posting the league's worst goal differential take a point from arguably the league's second best team.
  • New York 1-0 Chivas USA: The Red Bull fortress? Two big wins before heading into the two week break. If New York can hold this pace and bring in Henry they are a definite playoff team.
  • LA Galaxy 4-1 Houston: The class of the MLS, now lets focus on the young star Tristan Bowen. He has been a perfect Buddle replacement and this squad is fully capable of staying on top while the US stars are away. LA fans must be wishing the MLS was setup like the rest of the soccer world - if so, this year's title would be theirs.
  • Chicago 2-1 Philadelphia: The Fire got their first win since April, but I think the biggest story is the emergence of Union playmaker Danny Mwanga scoring a goal in his third straight match.
  • Dallas 2-0 San Jose: Brek Shea has taken the lead of this Dallas squad as Jeff Cunningham continues to fade in an out of engaging performances. Shea should most likely get the player of the week award following his two goals.
  • Colorado 1-0 Columbus: The Crew will be glad to get back to Eastern conference play after their straight Western conference matches - LA, San Jose and Colorado - and only picking up 1 point. The Rapids however have posted three straight 1-0 wins.
  • Seattle 3-0 New England: Now there is the Seattle Sounders we were all expected at the beginning of the year. True New England is an injuries plagued side, but this was Seattle's best result of the season.
  • East: New York (21) stopped its slide and have caught the Columbus Crew (21) who have dominated the Eastern conference for the past few years. Toronto (17) is out pacing last year's results and seem to be coming together under new head coach Preki towards a potential first ever playoff spot for the franchise. DC United may have tied Philadelphia at 7 points, but both teams are way off from any series contention this year - which isn't the biggest concern for a new club (Philly), but should be for a cornerstone MLS franchise (DC).
  • West: The Galaxy (32) are now 22 points ahead of their LA rivals, Chivas USA (10). Real Salt Lake (20) and Colorado (19) are LA's only competition and luckily for the MLS fans the Galaxy take on RSL Wednesday night. Houston (16) have slipped to the middle of the West, but have played a league high 13 matches. The battle for 4th and a potential play-off seems wide open for each team even down to Chivas USA.
