Soccer Table Update as of 2/22

Sorry for the delayed table update post, was away traveling for work. Here is a look at the past week's results and current table standings for the EPL and Serie A. Note, this post is as of 2/23, so the Manchester United vs. West Ham game later this afternoon is not reflected below.

EPL:
 - Past week's results - Two mid-week games to help make up for postponed matches due to the snow. Both ended in draws, Tuesday saw ManCity go 1-1 against Stoke City, and on Wednesday neither Wigan or Bolton could find the net 0-0 on ESPN2. Saturday morning started off with an exciting 3-1 win for Everton over the defending champions, Manchester United. Chelsea and Arsenal both capitalized on ManU's loss with 2-0 wins over Wolverhampton and Sunderland, respectively. On Sunday the battle for 4th place on on full display with ManCity drawing 0-0 against Liverpool, while Tottenham and Aston Villa won by a collective score of 8-2.
 - Current EPL Table - After Saturday's results, Chelsea sit comfortably in first at 61 points, four ahead of Manchester United (57) in second. Arsenal look revived and had closed in on second at 55 points. The fourth place (and European) battle is the most interesting and competitive at this point in the season. Currently, Tottenham and Manchester City are at 46 points, with the Spurs ahead on goal difference, but ManCity have a game in hand. Right behind them Liverpool and Aston Villa sit tied with 45 points. At the bottom of the table the relegation zone still contains the same teams, only that Bolton passed Burnley on goal difference for 18th spot. West Ham's new owners may have revitalized them, their latest win moves them up to 13th position.

Serie A:
 - Past week's results - On Saturday Inter Milan had their third straight draw, this time 0-0 against Sampdoria. Sunday morning saw Roma continue their impressive form with a 1-0 against Catania. That makes seven straight wins in Serie A and they are undefeated in 15 matches. Incredible. Juventus and Fiorentina continued their league turn-arounds with 2-1 victories against Bologna and Livorno, respectively. In the last match of the weekend, AC Milan's Brazilian strike force of Ronaldinho and Pato helped secure 3 points in a 2-0 result against Bari.
 - Current Serie A Table - Inter's recent struggles have put the title, which was just recently thought a done deal, back into contention. The champions currently sit at 55 points, with 2nd place Roma at 50. AC Milan are in third with 48 points, but also have a game in hand over Inter and Roma. Behind the leading trio sits a tight battle for 3 European spots. 4th place Juventus (41) is only three points ahead of 9th place Genoa (38), with Napoli, Palermo, Sampdoria, and Cagliari in the middle.
