Table Update as of 12/7

Big results this past weekend tightened up the top flights in Italian and English soccer. Here is a look at this past week's results and the current tables for the EPL and Serie A.

EPL:
Past week's results - Portsmouth closed the relegation battle with a 2-0 win over Burnley - Liverpool continued their struggles with a 0-0 draw against Blackburn - Manchester City won the big derby of the weekend with a 2-1 win over Chelsea. Frank Lampard missed a penalty for the Blues and their only goal was an own goal by Adebayor - Manchester United earned their full 3 points with a 4-0 versus West Ham, even with a injury depleted squad - US goal keeper Tim Howard came up with a big penalty save at the end to keep Everton to a 2-2 tie against Tottenham.
Current EPL Table - Despite their loss, Chelsea remain atop the table, but only two points ahead of ManU - Arsenal and Tottenham round out the UEFA spots for the EPL this week - The middle of the table continues to be very tight as there is only 6 points between 8th place (Fulham) and 16th place (Hull City) - Three points down from there and you've entered the relegation zone, with Wolves at 13 - Portsmouth closed the gap and now has 10 points.

Serie A:

Current Serie A Table - The top three stayed the same (Inter, Milan and Juventus), but the gap is now only 5 points - Newly promoted side, Parma, moves into 4th place, followed by Fiorentina and Roma who have climbed into 5th and 6th - The once table leaders, Sampdoria, continue to slide into 8th place - Likewise Lazio find themselves down into 16th place
